Disney vs. Universal Halloween 2025: Which One’s Right for You?

Orlando is like the Halloween capital of the U.S. In fall 2025, you’ve got two major after-hours events fighting for your attention: Disney World’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) and Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights (HHN).
One is full of candy trails, parades, and castle fireworks. The other is fog, chainsaws, haunted houses, and cocktails. Both are extra-ticket events. Both sell out. And both are legendary in their own right.
So which should you book? I’m going to walk you through everything – from tickets and crowd levels to food, entertainment, and overall impression – so you’ll know exactly which event fits your trip. And yes – I will give my unfiltered thoughts (spoiler: Im obsessed with HHN, but clowns still ruin my life… every year. Who wouldn’t be deathly afraid here).
✨Note: if you’re West Coast-based, Disney’s Oogie Boogie Bash at California Adventure is a whole other family-friendly villain party. I’ll have a full guide on that soon, but this post is Orlando-focused.
Dates & Tickets
Mickey’s Not-so-scary halloween party (disney world)
- Runs select nights August through October 2025 at Magic Kingdom
- Tickets range from $119-$199, depending on the date
- Separate ticket required (day admission doesn’t count)
- Costumes are allowed for everyone – yes, adults too
💎 Epic Intel: The closer you get to Halloween, the pricer it gets – and late October nights always sell out fast. If you know your dates, buy ASAP.

Halloween Horror Nights (Universal Studios Orlando)
- Runs select nights August 29- November 2, 2025, at Universal Studios Florida
- Tickets start around $82-$122, depending on the night
- Add-ons: Express pass, RIP Tours
- Costumes are NOT allowed – you don’t need them when you’re already in a horror movie
💎 Epic Intel: Saturday nights in October are brutal. Houses hit 3-hour waits. If you can only splurge on one thing, make it the Express Pass, or if you’re really lucky (or have a great travel agent) you can get the RIP tour, which is explained in my HHN Guide below.

Disney Vs. Universal Atmosphere & energy
Disney MNSSHP
- Bright, Cheerful, Magical
- Trick-or-Treat trails everywhere
- Parade led by the Headless Horseman, fireworks, and the best costumes
- Music is fun and bouncy – No gore, no scares
Universal HHN
- Fog, strobe lights, loud music, and jump scares everywhere
- Five scare zones spread through the park
- Scareactors with chainsaws chasing people
- Feels like a giant late-night party for horror fans

✨ Easy Translation: MNSSHP = safe & sweet. HHN = adrenaline rush + possible trauma
Entertainment & Experiences
At mnsshp:
- Boo-To-You Parade
- Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks at the castle
- Character meet-and-greets (Jack & Sally, villains, Mickey & friends in Halloween costumes
- Trick-or-Treating
At HHN:
- 10 haunted houses
- 5 scare zones scattered through the park
- Live shows with music, dark humor, and usually pyro
Food & Drinks

At mnsshp:
- Seasonal snacks- pumpkin treats, glowing drinks, themed desserts
- Mickey shaped everything
- Trick or treat candy is included in your ticket
At HHN:
- Food booths with creepy creations (lookin’ like they just crawled off a horror set)
- Specialty cocktails at themed bars
- Fried, spicy, and over-the-top food that’s perfect for photos and late-night cravings
💎 Epic Intel: HHN food menus drop just before the event starts. If there’s something you MUST try, grab it early – popular booths do sell out.
✨ My take: MNSSHP sugar rush = kids bouncing until 2 AM. HHN cocktails = me stumbling through the fog, trying not to spill while a scareactor revs a chainsaw behind me.
Who should go where?
- Families with younger kids – MNSSHP is your event. Costumes, candy, and fireworks. No gore. HHN isn’t recommended for kids under 14.
- Horror fans & thrill seekers – HHN, no contest. If you love haunted houses and scary movies, this is pretty much your dream.
- Hardcore Halloween fans – Do both if you can. Start at Disney for candy, finish at Universal for screams.
✨ Bottom line: you’re not choosing “better or worse.” You’re choosing between sweet and scary.

I live in Washington, and every fall I’d happily fly across the country for HHN Orlando. That’s my jam. Haunted houses, scare zones, the atmosphere, the screams – it’s Halloween in its purest form.
But here’s the thing: clowns. I can handle chainsaws, demons, monsters – but send in a clown and I’m running (and yes, there’s always clowns there. Every. Freaking. Year.) Do I still go? Absolutely. Do I cover my eyes through everything and run? Most definitely.
MNSSHP, though? Totally different vibe. If you want magic with your Halloween, it’s one of the most charming nights you could have in a theme park. The parade alone is worth it. But if you crave the chaos like me, HHN is where you’ll feel at home.

Whichever event you pick, don’t wait. Both sell out, and prices creep higher the longer you sit on them.
